If you are symptom-free the WHO advice is you only need to wear a mask if you are caring for an infected person. They do advise you wear a mask if you are coughing and sneezing. The CDC on the other hand “are not finding any data that can quantify risk reduction from the use of masks.”
Covering your nose and mouth for long periods of time causes exhaled carbon dioxide to be rebreathed. Over time this reduces the oxygen levels in each breath, which would gradually lead to hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). Hypoxia adversely affects all body functions. Two examples; impaired brain activity can affect concentration and also impaired immune response can make us vulnerable to infection. Therefore it can be concluded that the routine wearing of a face mask is far more hazardous to the body than the threat of coronavirus itself.
